Paranormal Activity Takes the Stage: A Thrilling Theatrical Twist on Horror

Ghost Hunting

Horror fans, get ready for a spine-tingling theatrical experience that’s about to hit San Francisco. The legendary found-footage horror franchise “Paranormal Activity” is transforming into a live stage production at A.C.T’.s Toni Rembe Theater from February 19 to March 22.

Chris Fisher, a master of theatrical illusions known for his work on “Harry Potter & The Cursed Child” and “Stranger Things: The First Shadow”, is bringing a unique vision to this supernatural performance. Unlike a direct film adaptation, this play offers an original story within the “Paranormal Activity” universe, promising to deliver heart-stopping moments without relying on traditional film techniques.

Fisher and his creative team, including playwright Levi Holloway and director Felix Barrett, approached the production with a collaborative spirit. Their goal was to create something that genuinely terrifies audiences while maintaining theatrical integrity. “We talked about what scared us,” Fisher recalls, highlighting the intricate process of developing theatrical horror.

The production abandons the film’s CCTV-style storytelling, instead focusing on creating immersive psychological tension. Fisher emphasizes the importance of subtlety, comparing their approach to the “Jaws effect” - where suggestion and anticipation are more frightening than explicit displays.

What makes this production unique is its bespoke approach to illusions. Every effect is custom-designed specifically for the stage, ensuring audiences experience something entirely original. The creative team meticulously crafted each moment, understanding that true horror lies in realistic environments and precisely timed surprises.

Tickets range from $25 to $130, available through www.act-sf.org. For Bay Area horror enthusiasts and theater lovers seeking a thrilling night out, this “Paranormal Activity” stage production promises an unforgettable experience that challenges traditional horror storytelling.

Prepare to be scared - but not in the way you might expect.
