Airbnb is making a power move into the transportation game, and honestly, it makes total sense. Starting this week, the travel platform is rolling out a private car pick-up service across 125 cities worldwide, partnering with transportation company Welcome Pickups to handle the logistics. So whether you’re landing in Paris, Bali, or Mexico City, you’ll soon be able to book a ride straight from the Airbnb app when you arrive at your destination.
The company has been quietly testing this feature throughout Europe and Asia over the past year, and the early results are genuinely impressive. Thousands of guests used the service during the pilot phase, and it earned a solid 4.96 rating. That kind of feedback is exactly what Airbnb needed before going global with this expansion.
Here’s what makes this feature actually useful: once you book a stay in one of the participating cities, you’ll see an option to schedule a private car directly in the Trips tab of the Airbnb app. You can check your reservation details and make changes without having to switch between multiple apps or contact customer support. It’s the kind of seamless integration that eliminates the travel stress of figuring out how to get from the airport to your rental.
“Airbnb Services are designed to enhance a guest’s stay, and our partnership with Welcome Pickups delivers that from the moment they arrive”, Dave Stephenson, Airbnb’s chief business officer, said in a statement. The company is already planning to expand this service to additional cities throughout the year, so expect even more coverage soon.
This car service is the latest addition to Airbnb’s ambitious services ecosystem. The platform launched its services category last summer with offerings including personal chefs, catering, photography, massages, and spa treatments across eight countries. Then in November, Airbnb partnered with Instacart to let guests order groceries before and during their stays in select U.S. cities. It’s clear that the company is trying to become your one-stop-shop for everything travel-related.
Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky is even thinking bigger. During the company’s Q4 2025 earnings call, he mentioned that Airbnb is experimenting with hotel bookings too. Chesky explained that the opportunity in the hotel space is massive and that the platform wants to become a part of your entire trip, whether you’re looking for a traditional hotel or a unique rental. This expansion into transportation and other services is a major step toward that goal.
For Bay Area travelers especially, this kind of integrated travel planning could seriously simplify planning trips abroad. Instead of juggling Airbnb, Uber, Google Maps, and a dozen other apps, you’re potentially consolidating everything into one platform.
