If you’ve been itching for an excuse to get down to the waterfront and dance in the sun, Om Records has got you covered. The legendary EDM label is celebrating three decades of existence with a bang, literally two bangs, actually, on Saturday, May 9th. There’s a free daytime party at Embarcadero Plaza that runs from 1 pm to 5 pm, followed by a ticketed night party at Great Northern starting at 9 pm.
The free day party is the real draw here, especially if you’re into quality electronic music and don’t want to drop money on tickets. Om Records is teaming up with Another Planet Entertainment (APE) to make this happen, and they’ve assembled an incredible lineup of DJs who basically wrote the soundtrack to the Bay Area’s electronic music scene. We’re talking Mark Farina, Shiny Objects, J Boogie, and Collette spinning back-to-back with DJ Heather. These aren’t just names, these are legends who’ve been holding down the San Francisco sound for years.
Another Planet Entertainment has been killing it lately when it comes to bringing free concerts to the city. They’ve basically turned San Francisco into a music destination by partnering with the city for massive free events. Last year alone, they orchestrated the “Summer of Music” at Golden Gate Park, which included everything from the Grateful Dead’s 60th anniversary celebration to a Zach Bryan and Kings of Leon show. Before that, they threw a free concert featuring Shaboozey to celebrate Empire Records’ 15th anniversary at Civic Center. So yeah, these folks know how to throw a party.
Mayor Daniel Lurie even jumped in with a statement saying that events like this are part of San Francisco’s “comeback” as a music city. It’s cool to see city leadership acknowledging that free public events in iconic spaces actually matter for community building and supporting local artists.
If you’re planning to hit up the day party, you’ll want to RSVP through the official link so they can get a headcount. The vibe will be a classic San Francisco waterfront scene, good music, good people, and the Bay breeze doing its thing. If you’ve got the budget and want to keep the party going into the night, the ticketed event at Great Northern features even more heavy hitters like Derrick Carter, Rithma, King Kooba, and others.
Whether you roll with the free daytime option or go all-in with both parties, this is one of those quintessential San Francisco music moments that reminds you why the city’s electronic music community is genuinely special. May 9th is looking pretty good right now.
