Union Square is about to get a serious upgrade with the arrival of two Bay Area icons: NBA superstar Steph Curry and renowned chef Michael Mina. Their new collaboration, featuring Bourbon Steak and The Eighth Rule, promises to inject fresh energy into San Francisco’s culinary scene.
The project marks a nostalgic return for Mina, who originally opened his first restaurant in the St. Francis Hotel back in 2004. For Curry, it represents his debut in the hospitality world, expanding beyond basketball and his existing culinary partnerships.
Bourbon Steak is set to dazzle diners with an upscale menu that goes far beyond typical steakhouse fare. Signature dishes like the $175 Maine Lobster Pot Pie with black truffles and the massive 36-ounce Australian Wagyu Tomahawk hint at the restaurant’s luxurious approach. Innovative appetizers such as the Crab Cake Pop-Tart with Thai coconut curry showcase Mina’s playful culinary creativity.
Curry’s companion establishment, The Eighth Rule, will focus on his Gentleman’s Cut bourbon brand, offering a curated experience of rare whiskies and bespoke cocktails. The bar’s name cleverly references the seven traditional rules of bourbon production, inviting guests to define their own gathering principles.
Located at 335 Powell Street, the venues will operate with precise scheduling: The bar opens at 4 p.m. and closes at midnight, while the restaurant serves dinner from 5-9 p.m. on weeknights and extends to 10 p.m. on weekends.
This collaboration represents more than just another restaurant opening, it’s a testament to San Francisco’s evolving culinary landscape, where sports, hospitality, and innovation intersect. Curry’s vision of bringing “community, fun, and culture” seems perfectly embodied in this exciting new dining destination.
