Rising Up Against Authoritarianism: Bay Area Joins Nationwide Protests

As President Donald Trump’s second administration continues to challenge democratic norms, a massive coalition of 190 organizations is mobilizing for a national day of defiance scheduled for Saturday, June 14, 2025.
The “No Kings” movement has organized over 1,800 demonstrations nationwide, with more than 80 protests planned across the Bay Area in cities including San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Santa Cruz, and Monterey. These protests are a direct response to the administration’s controversial $100 million military parade, which coincides with Trump’s birthday and the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary celebration.
Organizers are critiquing the lavish military display, arguing that taxpayer funds are being used for self-aggrandizement while critical social programs like Social Security, SNAP, Medicaid, and public schools remain underfunded. Since Trump’s inauguration in January, grassroots groups have been organizing weekly protests to challenge the administration’s policies.
The Bay Area’s diverse protest locations, from Vacaville to Guerneville, Napa to Sausalito, demonstrate a broad-based resistance movement committed to defending democratic principles and social justice. By coordinating simultaneous demonstrations across the country, the No Kings movement aims to send a powerful message of collective opposition to what they perceive as authoritarian tendencies.
As the nation watches, these protests represent more than just a political statement, they embody a grassroots commitment to holding power accountable and preserving the fundamental values of democracy.
