Chuy Gomez Is About to Make Bay Area TV History with Lowrider Parade Broadcast

Story and King: San José's Lowrider Culture' Exhibit

San Francisco’s vibrant Latino culture is about to get a major televised spotlight this September. Local radio and TV personality Chuy Gomez will co-host the first-ever live broadcast of San Francisco’s Lowrider Parade alongside reporter Sara Donchey, bringing the city’s rich cultural traditions directly into living rooms across the Bay Area.

The event, scheduled for September 20 from 1-3 p.m., will air on CBS Bay Area’s KPIX as part of National Latino Heritage Month. More than just a parade, this celebration promises to be a dynamic showcase of community pride and automotive artistry.

Over 300 meticulously crafted lowriders will be on display during the Class Car Show, with hundreds of vehicles expected to cruise in from across the West Coast. Notably, many of these cars will be from women-led clubs, highlighting the diversity and innovation within the lowrider community.

The hopping competition remains a key attraction, offering an impressive $10,000 cash prize to the winner. Enthusiasts can still register for the contest until August 31, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.

Organized by the San Francisco Lowrider Council and Cultura y Arte Nativa de Las Américas (CANA), this celebration goes beyond mere spectacle. It’s a powerful affirmation of San Francisco’s Latino roots, designed to uplift neighborhood businesses, artists, and cultural traditions.

For Bay Area residents and cultural enthusiasts, this broadcast represents more than just a parade – it’s a vibrant celebration of community, creativity, and resilience. Chuy Gomez’s involvement ensures the event will be both informative and entertaining, promising viewers an authentic glimpse into a beloved cultural tradition.
