After years of challenges, the beloved Gilroy Garlic Festival has triumphantly returned, marking a significant moment for the Northern California community. The festival, which previously drew crowds of 100,000, is now a more intimate event with just 3,000 daily attendees at Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park.

The journey back has been anything but simple. In 2019, a tragic mass shooting devastated the festival, followed by COVID-19 cancellations and financial struggles that nearly ended the event permanently. Now, organizers have reimagined the festival with a scaled-down approach that maintains its spirit of celebration.

This year’s festival offers a unique experience for those unable to secure tickets. A full weekend livestream provides virtual access to live music, cooking demonstrations, and even a garlic-themed band called The Stinkin’ Locals. For the lucky few with tickets, the event promises a nostalgic taste of local culinary culture.

Tickets are currently sold out, but a small ticket exchange offers limited opportunities for last-minute attendees. Those interested can check the festival’s website for potential single-day tickets or explore the livestream option.

The new venue at South County Grove represents more than just a location change - it symbolizes resilience and community healing. By adapting and persevering, the Gilroy Garlic Festival continues to be a testament to the region’s cultural strength and ability to overcome significant challenges.

Whether experienced in-person or through the livestream, this year’s festival invites Bay Area residents and garlic enthusiasts to celebrate a cherished local tradition that refuses to be extinguished.
