The San Francisco culinary landscape is about to get a major upgrade with the reopening of Michael Mina’s Bourbon Steak and the debut of Steph Curry’s whiskey bar, The Eighth Rule. Nestled in the iconic Westin St. Francis Hotel, these new dining destinations promise to redefine Union Square’s gastronomic experience.

The revamped space features a stunning European-style central bar designed by hospitality experts AvroKO, complete with a stained-glass feature wall by Bay Area artist Theodore Ellison. Bourbon Steak isn’t just another steakhouse – it’s a culinary journey that celebrates San Francisco’s rich food culture.

Chef Michael Mina’s menu is a love letter to the city, featuring innovative dishes like the Caviar Parfait, a decadent layered creation with smoked salmon, egg, and a crispy potato cake. Seafood lovers will swoon over the whole Dungeness crab served over fregola risotto, adorned with uni butter – a quintessential Bay Area dish.

The restaurant’s cocktail program is equally impressive, with standout drinks like the Michael Mina 2014, inspired by his signature tuna tartare, and a Japanese Old Fashioned featuring Steph Curry’s own bourbon. Next door, The Eighth Rule offers an exclusive six-course omakase-style cocktail experience that promises to be as sophisticated as its basketball star founder.

Mina’s passion for the city shines through in his vision. “San Francisco has never lost its magic,” he explains, “These spaces are designed to bring people together in a spirit of community”. It’s more than just a restaurant opening – it’s a celebration of San Francisco’s dynamic culinary spirit.

Both Bourbon Steak and The Eighth Rule open on Friday, October 10th, marking another exciting chapter in the city’s ever-evolving dining scene. Reservations are recommended for those eager to experience this culinary innovation.
