RH's Epic New Downtown Walnut Creek Complex Is About to Completely Transform the City's Retail Scene

A groundbreaking retail and culinary destination is set to revitalize downtown Walnut Creek, bringing a massive transformation to a prime city intersection. RH (formerly Restoration Hardware) and real estate developer Macerich are planning an ambitious 29,900 square foot complex that promises to inject new energy into the city’s economic landscape.

The project will replace the long-vacant Neiman Marcus site at Broadway Plaza, introducing an immersive experience that blends retail, dining, art, and design. Featuring a glass conservatory restaurant, four retail galleries, and extensive landscaping, the development aims to create a dynamic urban space that goes beyond traditional shopping.

Employment opportunities are a significant highlight of this project. The design gallery is expected to employ approximately 40 full-time staff, with peak midday staffing around 25 employees. Even more impressive, the restaurant will likely create around 100 jobs, with 80 of those being full-time positions.

Located at the crucial intersection of South Main Street and Mount Diablo Boulevard, this development is more than just another retail space. City planning documents emphasize the project’s importance to Walnut Creek’s economic well-being, positioning it as a transformative urban investment.

The complex will operate from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, with extended hours until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Construction is slated to begin mid-year 2026, with an anticipated opening in early 2028.

This innovative project represents a bold reimagining of urban retail spaces, demonstrating how strategic development can breathe new life into city centers. By combining dining, art, design, and retail into one cohesive experience, RH is setting a new standard for commercial development in the Bay Area.
