In a chilling tale of fraud, manipulation, and murder, the Bay Area’s criminal underworld is set to be exposed in an upcoming “Dateline” episode that promises to unravel a shocking saga from 2008.
The story centers around Kaushal Niroula, a charismatic con artist who dubbed himself the “Nepalese Prince” and built a reputation for elaborate scams across San Francisco. Niroula wasn’t just a petty fraudster - he systematically defrauded institutions and individuals, including orchestrating fake million-dollar promises at New College and executing complex real estate fraud schemes in Rincon Hill.
But the most sinister chapter of his criminal career involved a gruesome murder that remained hidden for nearly a decade. Niroula and four other men were responsible for killing 74-year-old Clifford Lambert, a Palm Springs art gallery dealer, in 2008. After murdering Lambert, the group meticulously planned to sell his house, drain his bank accounts, steal his Mercedes, and liquidate his art collection. Lambert’s body remained concealed until 2017, when it was finally discovered.
The upcoming two-hour “Dateline” special, titled “The Prince, The Whiz Kid & The Millionaire,” will comprehensively explore this complex criminal narrative. The episode is based on Tyson Wrensch’s 2013 book “Until Someone Gets Hurt” and features interviews and insights from those closest to the case.
Wrensch himself expressed excitement about the story finally being told, noting the multiple production challenges NBC News faced in bringing this narrative to light. The documentary promises to provide a deep dive into the psychological manipulation and criminal mechanics that allowed these “gay grifters” to operate with impunity for so long.
The “Dateline” episode will air on Friday, October 10th, from 9-11 pm on NBC Bay Area’s KNTV Channel 11, offering viewers an unprecedented look into one of the most disturbing criminal conspiracies in recent Bay Area history.
