Spring is officially here, and the Bay Area’s food and beverage scene is absolutely buzzing with new openings, expansions, and returning favorites. Whether you’re into wine, coffee, sourdough, or late-night eats, there’s genuinely something exciting coming to your neighborhood soon.

Let’s start with the wine lovers. Fat Cat SF, the wine club brainchild of Jessica Bell, is finally getting a permanent home in the Mission District. After running pop-ups last fall, Bell is settling into a brick-and-mortar space at 3215 Mission Street (the old Outer Orbit spot). The best part? Vietnamese chef Kevin Tang’s pop-up, Claws of Mantis, will be handling all the food pairings. Both are aiming to open by early or mid-April, so mark your calendars.

If coffee is more your speed, the Financial District is about to become a caffeine hub. Andytown Coffee Roasters and Ritual Coffee Roasters are both opening new locations in FiDi this spring. Andytown’s landing at 66 Kearny Street while Ritual is taking over the former Torrefazione Italia space at 255 California Street. Opening dates are still being finalized, but these spots should be ready soon.

Now, let’s talk about the sourdough situation. Rize Up Bakery, the operation run by baker Azikiwee Anderson (who’s basically legendary for their ube sourdough), is opening a full cafe this summer at 1160 Howard Street in SoMa. Beyond just buying a loaf, you’ll be able to grab grilled cheese sandwiches, salads, soups, and coffee made with Rize Up’s bread. This is a major move for the bakery.

Bernal Heights’ beloved Black Jet Bakery is also expanding to the Outer Sunset. Black Jet Luncheonette is opening at Judah and 46th Avenue (that tiny space that used to be Damn Fine Coffee and Trouble Coffee before that). Expect their signature breakfast sandwiches, coffee cake, and rotating sandwich specials. They’re targeting a June opening.

Over at Union Square, the kiosk currently housing b. patisserie may get a new tenant next year. The Rec & Parks Department just posted a request for proposals for the 900-square-foot space, with a lease starting in February 2027. This suggests b. patisserie is planning to move on, so a new vendor will likely take over.

Finally, good news for night market fans: Cole Valley Nights returns on Thursday, March 19, and the Castro Night Market kicks off a new season on Friday, March 20. Both are part of the Civic Joy Fund and have made a comeback due to massive demand after last year’s surge in night market popularity.

There’s genuinely never been a better time to explore what’s happening in SF’s food community. Get out there and support these local businesses.
