The 49ers just pulled off a major free agency move, and honestly, we have George Kittle to thank for it. The team officially signed six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Evans to a three-year deal on Thursday, and Evans didn’t hold back when explaining why he chose San Francisco over other potential suitors.

“George was the biggest salesman”, Evans told reporters during his introductory press conference. “I mean, George sold it big time. He’s a big reason why I’m here, just because of the type of player and teammate that he is”.

If you’ve been paying attention to the NFL, this makes total sense. Kittle and Evans have crossed paths multiple times as Pro Bowl teammates over the past five seasons, so they already had a solid foundation. But apparently, Kittle took things to the next level during free agency, leveraging that relationship to convince one of the league’s most accomplished receivers to join the squad.

Evans also highlighted the 49ers’ organizational resilience as a major factor in his decision. Despite dealing with significant injuries to key players throughout the 2025 season, San Francisco still managed to finish with a 12-5 record and make it to the NFC divisional playoffs. That kind of depth and adaptability clearly impressed the veteran receiver.

Now here’s where things get really interesting: Kittle is currently recovering from an Achilles injury he sustained during the 49ers’ NFC wild card playoff victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. So while the two All-Pro talents will eventually form a dynamic duo in Kyle Shanahan’s offense, we’ll probably have to wait a bit to see them fully operating together on the field.

But when Kittle does return to full health, the possibilities are honestly pretty wild. Evans brings elite-level receiving skills and proven production from his 12 seasons in the NFL, and pairing him with Shanahan’s creative offensive scheme could be a nightmare for opposing defenses. The 49ers offense already features talented playmakers, so adding Evans to the mix significantly raises the ceiling for this team’s 2026 campaign.

The fact that Kittle was willing to go to bat for the organization during free agency also says a lot about the culture he’s helped build in that locker room. Players want to play for a team where established guys are genuinely invested in bringing in quality talent and building something special. That’s the kind of leadership that doesn’t always show up in the stat sheet but absolutely matters when it comes to team chemistry and long-term success.

So yeah, give it up for Kittle, he just became the 49ers’ best recruiter.
