If you’ve been hearing the buzz about the Tony Award-winning play “Oh, Mary!” and wondering when you’d actually get to see it without flying to New York, we have some good news for you. The hilarious, completely fictional take on Mary Todd Lincoln as a would-be cabaret singer who loves her cocktails is heading to the Curran Theater this October, and honestly, it’s the kind of show that feels made for a Bay Area audience.

American Conservatory Theater (ACT) just announced their 2026/27 season, and “Oh, Mary!” is the star of the show. Running from October 13 to November 1, the play will be a partnership with ATG San Francisco. The production has been an absolute phenomenon since it debuted, winning Cole Escola a Tony for her starring role and another Tony for Best Direction of a Play in 2025. It’s still running strong on Broadway, with a rotating cast of comedic powerhouses playing Mary, including Jinkx Monsoon, Titus Burgess, Jane Krakowski, and most recently, Maya Rudolph.

Beyond the Tony Awards, “Oh, Mary!” was also a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and took home Drama League Awards for Outstanding Play and Outstanding Direction. Director Sam Pinkleton’s sharp work has made this absurdist comedy a must-see.

ACT is bringing a seriously stacked season overall, which is particularly notable since it’s the final season curated by Artistic Director Pam McKinnon before she steps down after eight years. “From Hitchcockian stylish suspense and audacious comedy to deeply personal storytelling, infused with magic, and a big-hearted laugh-out-loud world premiere musical this season invites audiences into conversations that are urgent, hilarious, and profoundly human”, McKinnon said.

Beyond “Oh, Mary!”, ACT has some seriously exciting productions lined up. There’s “John Proctor Is the Villain”, a fresh take on “The Crucible” that opens November 12 and asks tough questions about how we read literature and who we consider heroes. Then comes Emma Rice’s theatrical adaptation of “North by Northwest”, which has been called “a riotously funny high-speed theatrical ride”.

Other highlights include the world premiere of “The Bad News Bears: The Musical” (yes, based on the 1976 movie), coming in February, and several other West Coast premieres throughout the season.

If you’re already an ACT season ticket holder, you can renew your subscription now. New subscribers can also lock in their seats for the full season at ACT’s website. Single tickets for individual shows will go on sale later, so if “Oh, Mary!” is on your must-see list, keep your eyes peeled for when those drop.
