Bar Part Time Is Opening a Nightclub in the Mission and It Sounds Incredible

The natural wine bar that’s basically become a second home for Mission District party-goers is expanding, and honestly, we’re here for it. Bar Part Time, the wine spot that started as a pandemic pop-up and somehow became the coolest thing on 14th Street, is taking over the space that Bissap Baobab just vacated at 2243 Mission Street. But this time, they’re going bigger and louder with a proper nightclub called Downtime.

If you’ve been to Bar Part Time, you already know what makes it special. It taps into that whole natural wine trend that’s become way more than just a drink preference, it’s basically a lifestyle thing at this point. The owners, Dan Small, Jeremy Castillo, and Justin Dolezal, figured out how to make wine bars actually fun again by combining rare natural wines with party vibes that would’ve seemed wild in a wine bar just ten years ago. Seriously, the concept has gotten so popular that copycat spots have started popping up in LA, Portland, and beyond.

Now they’re ready to level up. Downtime is going to be a full nightclub situation, but with the natural wine ethos still at its core. They’re bringing in Eric Ochoa, a veteran bartender who’s also a partner at the acclaimed bar Dalva and previously worked at ABV and Bar Agricole, to handle the cocktail program. Expect “inventive, delicious, classic” cocktails that’ll pair nicely with a curated selection of zero-zero wines, which basically means ultra-unprocessed, totally natural stuff.

The food situation is where things get interesting. The owners partnered with the team behind Rose Pizzeria, the acclaimed Berkeley spot that’s also obsessed with natural wine. Here’s the twist though: there’s no pizza happening at Downtime. Instead, Rose Pizzeria’s team will be creating a custom bar snack menu, which is apparently being kept under wraps for now. Considering Rose Pizzeria’s reputation and their commitment to natural wines, we’re guessing the food will be seriously thoughtful.

The 6,000-square-foot space is going through some renovations and sound system upgrades to make it nightclub-ready, so don’t expect to see Downtime open anytime soon. The plan is a late-fall opening, which gives them plenty of time to get everything just right.

This expansion shows just how much Bar Part Time has tapped into what younger San Francisco crowds actually want right now. It’s not just about drinking natural wine, it’s about the whole experience, the community, and the fact that these spots feel genuinely fun and unpretentious. Downtime is shaping up to be exactly that, just bigger and with more cocktails.
