In a powerful moment of vulnerability, Sawyer Hemsley, co-founder of the viral cookie brand Crumbl, recently shared his truth about his sexuality after experiencing online speculation and rumors.
Hemsley took to Instagram to address the swirling conversations, stating, “Over the past little while, there have been people online trying to define me, twist things, and share conversations in ways that feel harmful. Instead of letting others write my story, I want to share it in my own words”.
The journey of self-acceptance hasn’t been easy for Hemsley, who grew up in a Mormon household. He candidly explained that processing this part of himself took considerable time and emotional labor. “It’s taken me a long time to really process this part of myself and even longer to feel comfortable enough to say it out loud,” he shared.
The public speculation began when TikTok influencer Grant Gibbs posted a video that went viral, garnering over 19 million views. In the video, Gibbs made comments about Hemsley’s sexuality, which sparked widespread discussion online.
Despite the initial invasive speculation, Gibbs ultimately apologized and congratulated Hemsley on his courageous step. “Girl, I am so happy for you and so proud of you. You are hot and you are going to live your best open, out, gay life, mama,” Gibbs said in a follow-up video.
Hemsley’s statement reflects a deeply personal and transformative experience. “Coming to terms with it has been overwhelming and, at times, scary , but it has also brought me peace, joy, and authenticity that I wouldn’t trade for anything,” he expressed.
His openness serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of self-acceptance and the courage it takes to live authentically in the face of public scrutiny. As a co-founder of a billion-dollar company, Hemsley’s vulnerability might inspire others in similar situations to embrace their true selves.
