Music lovers in the Bay Area are in for a unique treat as the Stinkfoot Orchestra prepares to bring the eclectic sounds of Frank Zappa to life at Club Fox in Redwood City. Founded by Nick Chargin to celebrate Zappa’s 80th birthday in 2020, this 14-piece ensemble is more than just a typical tribute band.

The orchestra is known for its incredible musical complexity, featuring musicians from diverse backgrounds including classical, rock, and jazz. What makes Stinkfoot truly special is its commitment to authenticity, featuring original Mothers of Invention members like Napoleon Murphy Brock, a Grammy-winning performer who brings genuine Zappa-era credibility to the stage.

Chargin, a San Jose resident and keyboardist, has carefully curated a group of musicians who can navigate the intricate musical landscapes of Zappa’s compositions. “We take people from different genres and put them together, and it still works because it’s really difficult music,” Chargin explains.

The upcoming performances on June 21-22 promise something extraordinary: two completely unique shows with no repeated songs. This means dedicated fans can experience 70 different Zappa tracks, showcasing the breadth and depth of the legendary musician’s catalog.

While the band has received interest from East Coast fans, their large ensemble size makes extensive touring challenging. However, this hasn’t dampened their spirit or musical excellence. Fans have been known to travel from across the country to catch Stinkfoot’s performances at Club Fox.

For those unfamiliar with Zappa’s music, these shows offer a rare opportunity to experience a musical legacy that defies traditional genre boundaries. Tickets are available online for $30 in advance or $35 at the door, promising an unforgettable musical journey through one of rock’s most innovative catalogs.

Stinkfoot Orchestra continues to prove that great music transcends time, keeping the spirit of Frank Zappa alive and vibrant in the Bay Area’s rich musical landscape.
