MC Hammer's Land Rover Drama: When Celeb Finances Go Sideways

Oakland’s own rap legend MC Hammer is finding himself in hot water with Chase Bank over an unpaid luxury vehicle. Court documents reveal that the “U Can’t Touch This” rapper purchased a $115,000 Land Rover in 2023 but has fallen significantly behind on payments, with the bank claiming he owes approximately $76,000.
The lawsuit, filed in the Superior Court of California, details that Hammer stopped making regular monthly payments in May 2024, with only a couple of sporadic payments made since then. Interestingly, the legal documents list his business entity as “U Can’t Touch This LLC” and even list him professionally as “MC Hammer” rather than his birth name, Stanley Kirk Burrell.
This isn’t Hammer’s first financial challenge. He previously faced bankruptcy and tax issues back in 1996, but had seemingly rehabilitated his public image in recent years. The Bay Area artist became known for performances at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass and has since become an ordained minister.
Google Street View images of Hammer’s Tracy property reportedly show multiple vehicles, including a green Land Rover Defender, currently sitting in his driveway. Chase Bank’s lawsuit demands not just payment but also possession of the vehicle, stating the “unpaid provincial balance of $76,732.79 is due and payable”.
The case highlights the complex financial landscapes celebrities sometimes navigate, where high-value purchases can quickly become legal and economic challenges. For Hammer, what was once a symbol of success might now represent a significant financial burden.
As the legal proceedings unfold, fans and observers are left wondering how the iconic rapper will resolve this automotive predicament.
