The San Francisco culinary and entertainment scene is about to get a major upgrade this fall. Stephen Curry, the Warriors basketball legend, and celebrated chef Michael Mina are joining forces to transform a historic Union Square location into a vibrant dining and drinking destination.

Set to open in October, the project will feature two exciting venues at the Westin St. Francis: Mina’s reimagined Bourbon Steak restaurant and Curry’s new bourbon-focused bar, The Eighth Rule. This collaboration marks a significant moment for both entrepreneurs, who have deep roots in the Bay Area’s hospitality ecosystem.

Curry, known for his prowess on the basketball court, has been steadily expanding his business portfolio through Thirty Ink, which now comprises eight businesses and 13 entities. His latest venture, Gentleman’s Cut bourbon, will be prominently featured at The Eighth Rule, a 40-seat bar promising an intimate and sophisticated drinking experience.

For Mina, this project represents a nostalgic return to where his culinary journey began. The renovated restaurant space in the Westin St. Francis lobby holds special significance, as it was the location of his first restaurant two decades ago. Mina’s restaurant group now operates 25 restaurants worldwide, and this new Bourbon Steak concept is poised to become another jewel in his culinary crown.

This isn’t the first time the Curry and Mina families have collaborated. Previously, Mina partnered with Ayesha Curry on International Smoke, a global barbecue restaurant in the Millennium Tower.

The new venues are part of a broader revitalization of Union Square, joining recent and upcoming openings like Nintendo, Shoe Palace, and Pop Mart. For San Francisco locals and visitors alike, this collaboration represents an exciting blend of culinary innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, and hometown pride.
