In a powerful moment of resilience and solidarity, Fátima Bosch Fernández from Mexico was crowned Miss Universe 2025, transforming a potentially humiliating experience into a remarkable victory.

Bosch’s journey to the crown was marked by an extraordinary confrontation with Thai national director Nawat Itsaragrisil during the livestreamed sashing ceremony on November 4th. When Nawat publicly scolded her and allegedly called her “dumb” for not following promotional guidelines, Bosch refused to be silenced.

In a bold move, she walked out of the room, sparking a wave of support from fellow contestants, including Miss Universe 2024 Victoria Kjær Theilvig. Her actions caught international attention, with even Mexico’s first woman president, Claudia Sheinbaum, praising her dignified response.

“What your director did is not respectful,” Bosch told reporters, embodying a powerful stance against workplace harassment. The Miss Universe Organization president, Raúl Rocha Cantú, condemned Nawat’s behavior as “public aggression” and “serious abuse”.

Despite the controversy, Bosch’s victory was celebrated with cheers and Mexican flags waving in the audience. Beyond her beauty pageant success, she is a multifaceted individual with a background in sustainable fashion design and a commitment to social causes. Her official biography highlights her volunteer work with sick children, environmental advocacy, and support for migrants and mental health initiatives.

In her victory speech, Bosch expressed a desire to redefine the Miss Universe prototype, emphasizing the pageant as a platform for women to find their voice. Her win represents more than just a beauty competition triumph, it’s a statement about dignity, self-respect, and standing up against discrimination.

The event wasn’t without additional drama, including reports of judges quitting and Thai police investigating alleged illegal online casino promotions. Yet Bosch’s crowning moment overshadowed these controversies, symbolizing a significant moment of empowerment and resistance.

Bosch’s victory sends a powerful message: true strength lies not in conforming to expectations, but in courageously speaking truth to power.
