Get Ready for the Queerest Pie-Eating Contest in the Castro

The Castro is about to serve up a deliciously hilarious event that celebrates lesbian visibility in the most delightful way possible. This Sunday, Rikki’s, the beloved women’s sports bar, will host a pie-eating contest that promises to be as entertaining as it is meaningful.

Franco Stevens, founder of Curve magazine, is organizing the event as a playful fundraiser for Lesbian Visibility Week, happening April 21 to 26, 2026. The rules are simple and gloriously messy: contestants must eat an entire pie using only their face, with no hands or utensils allowed.

With a $5 entry fee and a tempting $100 grand prize, the first 20 “pie athletes” will compete for glory and laughs. Stevens isn’t just looking for speed - performance art is welcome too. “No forks. No hands. No shame. Just get your face in there,” she told local media.

The contest isn’t just about comedy - it’s a celebration of community and visibility. Participants can bring their own 9-inch pie, and while cream pies might offer a strategic advantage, there are no strict rules about pie selection.

Comedian Jenny Hagel has already brought some humor to the concept, joking about the event’s unique spirit. But beyond the jokes, this contest represents something deeper: a joyful, unapologetic celebration of queer identity.

So if you’re ready for a messy, hilarious afternoon that supports an important cause, head to Rikki’s this Sunday. Just make sure to wear something you don’t mind getting covered in pie filling.
