Ready to ditch gas appliances but not sure where to start? This Saturday, March 14, you can tour real homes in the South Bay that have already made the jump to electric living, and chat directly with the people who did it.

The Green @ Home Neighborhood Tour is bringing together the Rotary Clubs of Cupertino, Saratoga and Los Altos, along with Acterra and Silicon Valley Clean Energy, to showcase how home electrification actually works in practice. The tour hits homes across Cupertino, Los Altos, and Saratoga that have swapped out gas-powered systems for cleaner, more efficient electric alternatives.

You’ll get to see working examples of heat pumps that handle both heating and cooling, electric heat pump water heaters, induction cooktops, solar panels, battery storage systems, and electric vehicles. Some homes are even showing off rainwater collection systems and composting setups for those looking to go full eco-mode.

But here’s the real value: you can actually talk to the homeowners themselves. They’ll walk you through everything from picking the right appliances and finding contractors to dealing with installation timelines and understanding the financial side of things. And yeah, they’ll break down the tax credits, rebates, and incentive programs that can make this stuff way more affordable than you’d think.

The organizers are pretty clear about what they’re trying to do here. “Our goal is to take the mystery out of electrification,” explained Steve LeFevre of Cupertino Rotary. “When neighbors can walk through a home, see the equipment in action and talk candidly with the homeowner, it makes the transition to clean energy feel practical and achievable”.

Look, a lot of us want to reduce our carbon footprint, but the whole process can feel overwhelming or expensive. Tours like this one strip away the guesswork and show you that real people, your neighbors, actually, have already figured this out. They know what works, what doesn’t, and what questions you should be asking before you drop money on upgrades.

The Green @ Home Neighborhood Tour runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 14. You’ll need to register in advance to attend. Head over to bit.ly/MarchNeighborhoodTour to sign up, or check out acterra.org/electrification/greenhome/home-tours for more details.

If you’ve been sitting on the fence about electrifying your home, this is your chance to see how it’s done, straight from people who’ve already made it happen.
