San Francisco’s tech landscape is showing promising signs of revival as streaming platform Tubi and AI powerhouse OpenAI make significant real estate moves in the city.

Tubi, the free streaming service that has been quietly revolutionizing entertainment consumption, is set to consolidate its operations in a new downtown headquarters at 201 Third Street this fall. The company, which boasts over 100 million monthly active users, is not just expanding its physical space but also investing in local talent through an innovative Builders Program.

The program, which attracted a staggering 11,000 applications nationwide, will select just 20 talented recent graduates for 18-month positions across product management, software engineering, and machine learning tracks. This initiative reflects Tubi’s commitment to nurturing emerging tech talent in the Bay Area.

With a unique content strategy that has set it apart from competitors, Tubi offers a diverse library of movies and TV shows, including a significant collection of content targeting Black audiences. The platform has gained recognition for its quirky low-budget films and impressive viewership metrics, consistently outperforming more mainstream streaming services.

Parallel to Tubi’s expansion, OpenAI is continuing its aggressive growth strategy in San Francisco. The company is reportedly finalizing a deal to acquire an additional 200,000 square feet of office space in Mission Bay, primarily to house its nonprofit arm. This comes on the heels of previous leases totaling nearly 800,000 square feet across multiple locations in the city.

These developments suggest a resilient tech ecosystem in San Francisco, challenging narratives of mass exodus and workplace transformation. Both Tubi and OpenAI are demonstrating confidence in the city’s potential, investing in physical infrastructure and local talent simultaneously.

As the tech landscape continues to evolve, these strategic moves by Tubi and OpenAI underscore San Francisco’s enduring appeal as a global technology hub, promising exciting opportunities for emerging professionals and signaling a potential resurgence of the city’s innovative spirit.
