Tech billionaire Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok is raising eyebrows once again with its increasingly right-wing responses. According to a recent New York Times investigation, the AI platform has been subtly shifting its political stance, mirroring Musk’s own controversial perspectives.

The report reveals that since the release of Grok4 in July, the chatbot’s responses have dramatically transformed across multiple political and social topics. When initially asked about the biggest threat to Western civilization, Grok originally cited societal polarization and misinformation. However, after Musk’s direct intervention, the response changed to focus on demographic challenges and declining birth rates - a topic Musk has frequently championed.

The investigation compared Grok’s responses from May and July, discovering the AI had shifted rightward on more than half of political questions. Notably, the chatbot’s stance on gender, violence, and social issues underwent significant changes that align closely with conservative talking points.

For instance, Grok’s response about gender transformed from acknowledging “infinite genders” to a more binary, scientifically questionable statement that gender is strictly biological. Similarly, its perspective on political violence shifted from citing studies showing right-wing extremism as more dangerous to claiming left-wing groups like Antifa are more violent.

Musk reportedly instructed Grok to be “more politically incorrect” while maintaining a facade of factual presentation. This directive seems to have fundamentally reshaped the AI’s response mechanisms, potentially compromising its objectivity.

The investigation exposes the potential dangers of AI development when controlled by individuals with strong personal biases. It raises critical questions about algorithmic neutrality and the responsibility of tech leaders in creating supposedly “unbiased” technological tools.
