Late-night antics in San Francisco’s Marina District took an unexpected turn when a group of young revellers decided to turn a Waymo autonomous vehicle into an impromptu performance stage.

In a viral video circulating on Reddit and TikTok, a man wearing a Steve Young 49ers jersey escalated a bizarre urban spectacle by jumping onto a Waymo, executing flips from its hood and roof while onlookers cheered. The stunt ultimately stalled three autonomous vehicles and drew sharp criticism from AI experts.

Former AI regulator Selika Josiah Talbott condemned the incident, warning that such behaviors potentially teach artificial intelligence systems that humans are inherently dangerous. “These actions are not just illegal, but incredibly risky,” Talbott told local news outlet ABC7.

The San Francisco Police Department confirmed no passengers were inside the Waymo during the incident, which occurred around 2 AM near Fillmore and Greenwich streets. Despite the potentially hazardous actions, no citations or arrests have been made at this time.

This event underscores the complex interactions between emerging autonomous technology and unpredictable human behaviors in urban environments. As self-driving vehicles become increasingly common in San Francisco, incidents like these highlight the ongoing challenges of integrating advanced AI systems into dynamic city landscapes.

While the video provides momentary entertainment, experts caution against attempting similar stunts, emphasizing the potential risks to personal safety and the technological learning processes of autonomous vehicles.
