Who Will Take Nancy Pelosi's Congressional Throne?

San Francisco’s political landscape is heating up as speculation swirls around potential successors to Congressional powerhouse Nancy Pelosi. State Senator Scott Wiener has officially thrown his hat into the ring, announcing his candidacy for Pelosi’s seat, but he might not be the only contender.

Politico is buzzing with rumors that District 1 Supervisor Connie Chan could emerge as a serious candidate, potentially with Pelosi’s quiet endorsement. An intriguing detail suggests Chan was the sole local elected official standing alongside Pelosi at a recent labor event supporting a Democratic gerrymandering proposal, which political observers are interpreting as a potential signal of support.

While Chan has been cautious, reportedly considering a run only if Pelosi decides to step down, other potential candidates are also circling the opportunity. Pelosi’s own daughter, Christine Pelosi, is rumored to be contemplating a run, which could complicate Chan’s prospects.

The political drama doesn’t stop there. Tech organizer Saikat Chakrabarti has already officially kicked off his 2026 campaign, adding another layer of complexity to the race. Some tech industry powerbrokers have even discussed potentially drafting former Mayor London Breed as a candidate, though that seems unlikely.

Pelosi herself remains tight-lipped, promising to announce her plans only after November’s redistricting vote. The primary election is set for June 2, 2026, with the top two candidates facing off in the November 3 general election.

This race promises to be a fascinating showcase of San Francisco’s progressive political ecosystem, with multiple strong personalities vying for a seat that has been synonymous with Pelosi’s influential tenure. As the city watches and waits, one thing is certain: the battle for this congressional seat will be anything but boring.
