AI Takes Over: Opera's New Browser Will Code and Create While You Sleep

Coding

Imagine a web browser that doesn’t just help you surf the internet, but actively works on your behalf even when you’re not looking. Opera’s latest innovation, Neon, promises to do just that by leveraging advanced AI technology to transform how we interact with the digital world.

The Norwegian tech company is positioning Neon as an “agentic browser” with contextual awareness that can perform complex tasks autonomously. From generating code snippets and creating websites to building reports and even designing games, this AI-powered browser aims to be more than just a passive tool.

Opera’s senior AI product director Henrik Lexow believes we’re entering a revolutionary period where artificial intelligence can fundamentally change internet usage. The browser’s AI engine can interpret user requests and execute them using cloud-based AI agents, potentially working on multiple projects even when users are offline.

Unique features include a chatbot interface for web searching and obtaining contextual information from open webpages. The Browser Operator tool can automate routine web tasks like online shopping, form filling, and event booking - all while maintaining local browser interactions to preserve user privacy.

While specific launch details remain scarce, Opera describes Neon as a “premium subscription product” that represents their fifth browser iteration. Early adopters can currently join the waitlist, signaling the tech community’s growing excitement about AI’s transformative potential.

As tech continues to evolve at breakneck speed, Opera’s Neon represents a glimpse into a future where browsers are no longer just passive windows to the internet, but active, intelligent assistants ready to tackle complex digital tasks at a moment’s notice.
